Part One:
JJ meets a girl who has a startlingly similar life story to him, but she just so happens to be a kook. After spending one night together just talking, neither can get the other out of their heads. But both of them have home lives that seem determined to keep them apart. Maybe the universe has a bigger plan ahead, especially when one of JJ's best friends ropes them all into a treasure hunt that may just be the girl's one-way ticket out of her current situation.
Part Two:
The gold is gone, but Elma's problems are just beginning.With her dad in police custody and her mom once again AWOL and refusing to pay for legal council, Elma and Ms. Lana struggle to get through the trial with a court-appointed lawyer. Although Ward has been arrested with his own trial pending, Rafe is still on the loose and a constant threat to Elma's safety. And, to top it all off, school is just around the corner and rapidly approaching. JJ’s head snapped up, his eyebrows furrowing at her words. Of course he’d known she loved him, Elle wasn’t afraid to let people know that she loved them. She had said it to him a countless number of times. But she’d never said it with a sense of hopelessness behind it. As if loving him physically hurt her. JJ always thought that when people complained of their heart aching that they were being overdramatic. But he felt as if his heart was throbbing, it truly ached, in a way he didn’t think was possible. So he did what he does best, he made it ache even more.
“Then stop loving me.”
Or
JJ and Elle don't know how to cope with the loss of John B and Sarah and take it out on each other, leading Elle into the arms of Topper instead.
