His foot is tapping the ground impatiently as he checks the time from his phone. The sun is bright and up, the campus is impossibly loud with everyone trying to make the most of the nice weather. But not Till. He very much prefers this small shadowed place he found near the building where he has his class in– Alone, and a cigarette between his fingers to pass the time. -

“Next time,” a second passes before Ivan nods, repeating the words like it is a promise. Yet, just as Till is about to relax, he presses his lips together. In that same way he does whenever he is about to do something Till will be pissed off about. And his suspicion gets validated almost immediately when the other keeps talking. “So… you don't want the last one?”

The sound makes him freeze on the spot. It is barely there, making him doubt if he really heard it or not. Cautiously turning back to the door, he presses an ear against it. Barely a second later he hears it again. This time clearer.
It is a cry. A weak, almost silent one, but it is there. For a few seconds, Till can’t put a name on it. It can be a stray cat, or some small animal for all he knows. Yet, there is this mysterious voice in the back of his head that says he should probably not ignore it. Till listens to it, forming eye contact with Ivan as he enters the living room with a slight frown of his own. Till only shrugs at him in return.
The door finally opens, and Till looks at the empty hallway before the faint cry pulls his attention to the ground next to the door.
“Holy shit…”

Till asked him one night as they were watching an apocalyptic movie together. Ivan pursed his lips at the question, thinking and trying to put himself in the main character’s shoes. When he came up with no particular answer, he turned to Till, who kept watching the movie with his tired eyes from where he was leaning against Ivan. He realized then, that the answer was right next to him since the beginning. Ivan smiled; his voice had an almost cheerful edge when he opened his mouth.
