The weight of the mission settles on Atsushi’s shoulders, but he doesn’t hesitate. He nods, already determined to see it through.
But then, something occurs to him—something important.
Furrowing his brows, he asks the inevitable question.
“Who will I be undercover as?”
Silence lingers for just a second too long before Ranpo smirks around his lollipop.
Sliding it out of his mouth with a mischievous glint in his eyes, he answers smoothly:
“A burlesque dancer.”
Atsushi chokes.

Summary
Joining the ADA was the best thing to happen to Atsushi Nakajima but the last three years have put the weretiger through the wringer. He loves the work he does, or at least the part where the city is saved and there’s momentary peace. But it’s become a thankless job that leaves him too tired for a proper dating life.
Maybe he’d be less jaded if he didn’t have to pick up the slack for omegas when they drop everything for heat-related paid time off. It may not be their fault, but why does being a beta have to mean more work?
And on top of that, his rival-turned-mission partner is an alpha who keeps him at a cold distance due to their social dynamic. Atsushi often wonders if it’ll always be this strained between them.

“Ahem,” he cleared his throat until Ryuunosuke turned his head once more. “I said, I haven’t heard from him this morning,” he repeated. Then he cast his eyes up at the ceiling and let out an exasperated sigh. “Maybe he’s still at that guy’s place. Wouldn’t be the first time that’s made him late,” Ranpo Edogawa mused, all while tilting his head so he ended up looking Ryuunosuke dead in the eyes. A silent challenge. “Weird though, knowing how much time he spends with you. If I didn’t know any better I’d have thought he’d be in your bed. Given the feelings he’s harboring and all.”
