On the road, VI can’t stop looking at Caitlyn. Her thoughts are a roaring mix of affection, guilt, curiosity, hunger. When was the last time she felt like this? Has she ever?
What is confounding Vi the most is that Caitlyn still hasn’t asked for anything, nothing concrete. Nothing, anyway, that could give Vi any guidance on how to proceed.
What does one do, when they desire someone without any other kind of strings attached? Without the need to hide away, be quick not to get caught, be rough to not be seen as weak? Is she simply allowed to take and be taken? What if it breaks her? What if it breaks both of them?***
Caitlyn is out of options- the only chance she has of avenging her mother is by partnering with Vi, the sister of her mother's killer, convicted in her place ten years prior. Together, they set out through the country on a desperate search, with the Chembarons on their tail.
Caitlyn is struggling with her grief and her guilt, Vi has to learn how to live. The road will either save them, or swallow them whole.

“Sorry, cupcake, didn’t know where else to go.” It’s more or less the truth. Vi didn’t know how she climbed out of the undercity at this hour, all she had known was that no one down there was going to help her and there was someone in Piltover who would. It was strange, to need help in a town she used to know so intimately and not have a single person to stitch her up, but sometimes that’s just the way it goes. Either way, she’s at Caitlyn’s door now.
Long after they had met, Vi and Caitlyn began to sleep with each other. It was a casual affair, all flesh and tongues and desperation. It was nothing, two sort-of-maybe friends blowing off some steam. Until it became more than it should have been and Vi couldn't take it. Months later, she's bleeding out on Caitlyn's doorstep. Funny how things work out this way.
