Midoriya sucks in a breath. His legs tremble beneath him. The way he said that. The way he’s talking… It reminds him all too much of the hundreds of villain monologues he’s heard. The trembling moves up his legs and spreads throughout his whole body. He presses himself into Kinako’s side. He hates the extra foot he gave himself. He wants nothing more than to be small.
Kayaba displays the game menu. “I’m sure you’ve already noticed that the logout button on the main menu has been removed.”
Midoriya’s stomach drops. Removed.
Death in the game is nothing short of reality.
Or
Midoriya used the beta of Sword Art Online as a game to escape his quirkless reality, but on the official launch day it becomes more than just a game.

"Call him." Ochako says, shrugging.
Katsuki shrugs back, before calling Izuku's number and placing the phone near his ear.
He then froze, eyes wide. Before Ochako could ask, he placed the phone on speaker.
"The phone's on speaker?"
Ochako gaped.
That, was not Izuku's voice. That was their Japanese teacher's voice, oh god, that was their Japanese teacher's voice and he sounded very mad-
"Yeah, Half 'n half-sensei." Katsuki says hoarsely.
"Just thought you two should know that Midoriya-sensei won't be jogging with you for a while."
"Was that really necessary, Shou?" Izuku asks, voice caught on a laugh.
"I don't like getting woken up at 5 AM by your students, Izuku-" Shouto grumbles, pressing his face into Izuku's chest.
"They're your students too!" Izuku says, laughing out loud.
"Oh, shut up. It's way too early in the morning for this!" Shouto growls, kicking Izuku's ankle.

Shoto shook his head this time. "No, she doesn’t."
"I do," Midoriya muttered quickly, not giving Shoto a chance to respond. "I know your favorite soba shop."
There was a sharpness in Midoriya’s voice that wasn’t there before, an almost desperate need to assert something. Shoto couldn’t help but to feel something bloomed deep in his stomach.
Jealous, huh? he thought to himself, though he kept his expression neutral.

Gi-hun swallows the want. Ignores the longing. Squeezes a little tighter on Young-il’s shoulder to check if he’s real.
“You can’t be here,” Gi-hun says, rough, hushed enough for the bystanders to not catch. They probably still do, the silence in the dormitory deafening.
“You weren’t supposed to be here,” Young-il says in return, leaning his head on the wall. He sighs and closes his eyes briefly. “You weren’t supposed to find out like this.”

When Young-il had first turned around with the number 001 on him, of course the first thing that crossed Gi-hun’s mind was that the person with that number could be a plant again. But the thought had been quickly dismissed, as the Front Man knew he was in there and would know he wouldn't fall for that again. If there was another undercover player, Gi-hun had decided it would definitely be one with a different number.
The second thought that had crossed his mind was that the new player 001 was quite beautiful.
Though that thought had been quickly pushed aside as well, since it was drastically overshadowed by the dire circumstances they were in. Maybe there would have been time to explore it once they got out and could get soju like Young-il had said, but then Young-il had died and took any chances of that happening with him.
Or so Gi-hun had thought.

The next person he touched was Midoriya, and it was…not helpful, to say the least.
Admittedly, Todoroki went out of his way to touch Midoriya instead of waiting for Midoriya to do it, because he was very curious to hear what Midoriya was thinking.
So when he saw him, he greeted him with his usual ‘good morning’ and set his hand on Midoriya’s shoulder, ready to take in his thoughts and put them to good use.
Except Midoriya’s thoughts were…unclear. They weren’t even thoughts, more just…
‘AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!’
Todoroki had no clue what that meant or what to do with it, but it was a bit concerning.
OR: Todoroki gets hit with a quirk that lets him hear what people are thinking when he touches them, which is cool, except every time he touches Midoriya all he hears is uncontrollable screaming.
OR OR: Midoriya gay panics. A lot.

It mostly follows the same story: his father training his five-year-old self to the point of him getting sick, his mother coming to comfort him and his father abusing her instead as a result of her interference. This leading into his mother's crazed eyes before she scars his face with boiling water... but this night is different. Before his mother can intervene, someone swoops in and saves him, a teenaged boy with green hair and kind eyes. After that, he encounters the boy in his dreams again several times and oddly enough it seems that Shouto is the only one who can remember him in this so-called dream world.
