Summary
“Fuck, why do you keep doing these things? Why do you -”
“I was given to you. My job is to watch over you -”
Cas is not shouting, or anything, but his voice is definitely much colder now, and if this were an actual human being, Dean would steel himself for a punch.
“Your job,” he says instead, interrupting the stupid bastard, and he knows he’s talking too loudly, but he doesn’t know how to stop it, “is to fucking stay alive.”

Summary
“Cas?” Dean prods, shaking Castiel out of his thoughts.
Castiel bites his lip. “I’ll…I’ll just tag along with you, if that’s all right.”
Dean’s not making eye contact, so he takes the chance to give Dean a doleful stare, admiring his profile and the way his stubble turns a reddish blond in the glow of the streetlights. “I’ve missed you,” Castiel admits softly.
Dean finally turns his head to look, really look, at Castiel. “I’ve missed you, too.”
Castiel's time in Rexford, and his time with Dean in between

Summary
He shouldn’t, he knows. He knows that’s not the kind of thing you do, touch yourself to the thought of your best friend as he sleeps across from you, unaware of what you’re doing. Dean would probably be disgusted, if he knew, because he’d made it clear he didn’t want Castiel in the bunker, so he definitely wouldn’t want this.
He knows he shouldn’t.

Summary
But it’s okay, Cas thinks. No matter what’s wrong or what’s just developed, it will be okay, because they can solve it together. Like they’ve always done.
Dean says, “You can’t stay,” and Cas finally registers the taste of the residual food in his mouth. It tastes like ash.
He wonders if this is what it feels like for humans to die, and then he remembers he already died as a human, and it didn’t hurt this much.
