There’s less than two weeks of training left, and all this time she hasn’t spoken to Tim at all.
She wonders how he’s doing. She wonders about the weirdest things. What he ordered for lunch today. If he wore that soft grey Henley this week. She loves that shirt. Or that light jeans jacket. She wonders about his hair. If he trimmed the sides shorter, or let it grow out a bit more. If it’s longer on the top since she last saw him. If he went to see that stupid action movie that she’d sent him the trailer of a couple of weeks ago when they were still their usual selves. She’d sent him the link and texted: I know you’ll love it, even if you pretend you don’t. He’d responded within five minutes: Looks awful. She wonders if he took Ashley to see it.
She wonders if he likes riding with Aaron. "It’s a job, not happy hour," he’ll probably tell her. And it makes her smile imaging it.

She has started it, made it her singular goal to convince everyone around her she has what it takes, and now she can’t back out. Even when Tim thinks she might want to.

The first time it happened, he blamed himself for thinking she was fine. Lucy had been back to riding with him for about three weeks when they responded to the call. They’d shifted back to their usual rhythm like you slip into your favorite pair of well-worn jeans. She was doing okay, generally. In fact: Tim was in awe of her. Of how she was handling herself. Some days, he could almost fool himself into thinking it hadn’t really happened.

‘Sit,’ Tim commands, and the dog drops his behind, wagging his tail in anticipation. Like it’s his date, instead of Tim’s.
‘Hey…’ Tim says, smiling as he opens the door to find another brunette at his doorstep than the one he expected. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out she’s in a state. Her eyes are fiery, and she has this look, like she’s on a mission. ‘Oh, hey…’ he corrects, using his appropriate Angela tone, instead of the Lucy one he wasn’t aware he had, before now. How long has he been using it?

Summary
‘Where is she? Where the FUCK is she?’
Lucy can hear his voice twice. Somewhere from further down the building, and bellowing through Angela’s phone, that she’s moving away from her ear with a pained expression. He’s here. It’s the sheer relief she feels just from the thought of him being near now, that causes the hurling to take her by surprise. She almost misses the toilet that she’s hunched over. Turns out it doesn’t really matter anymore, since her stomach is completely empty. There isn’t even any bile left for her to vomit.
She whines pitifully, causing Tim to yell louder. ‘Was that her? Talk to me, Angela. What’s happening?’
Lucy hurls again and Angela rushes to her side, forgetting about Tim, who is freaking out.
‘I told you not to…’ – she chokes on another wave of nausea – ‘…worry him.’

Summary
When Tim wakes up, there’s an image of Lucy lingering in the back of his mind. Her hair is loose and wavy, and he knows – even though he’s drawn back to reality before he can grab on to it – that she’s wearing the green dress. It slowly dawns on him that the feeling in his chest; that full, happy, light feeling he has come to associate with her and only her, didn’t come from dreaming about her. It was real. He’s fully awake now. And he’s aware of the simple, black wedding band on his own finger, similar to hers. The memory of last night clear as day.

Reaching Lucy’s front door, Tim was debating whether or not to use the key Lucy gave him. Weighing the key in his hand, he decided to put it back in his pocket. He knocked, preparing to be greeted by the very unhappy puppy that awaited him here.
Instead, it was his very pretty, and seemingly very happy, girlfriend opening the door for him. He instantly felt some of his weariness dissipate looking at her face; big brown eyes, dark lashes, full lips curving upwards in a smile that could light up the entire world. Or his entire world at least.
