Summary
Natalie never expected to die a hero. She expected to die alone, coked out in the back of some shitty van, a victim to herself and her fucking impulses. Or, she expected to die in fear, victim to a hunt or a sacrifice to some stupid Wilderness God she doesn’t believe in. So, in some ways, maybe this is a plus:
Yay me, I guess. At least they can put ‘she tried’ on my gravestone.
But this doesn’t feel like a victory. All it feels like is cold. A cold, lonely death, buried in the snow and completely, entirely alone. A useless death. A death that no one will remember.
This is how she dies - not with a bang, but with a whimper.
And then she wakes up.
OR: Natalie never makes it to the mountain. A sudden blizzard claims her first. But when she opens her eyes, she's back to the day of the crash. This time, she’s determined to keep everyone alive - even if The Wilderness has other plans.

The hum of the engines deepened, vibrating through the cabin. A glow bled in from the windows, white light consuming everything, brighter and brighter until Jackie’s smile was all Shauna could see.
Her last thought was relief, or maybe surrender, before the light carried her away.-
Shauna dies in the adult timeline and of course her last vision would be Jackie. But something happen, the white light she assumed would be the end was the beginning. She was back on plane, crashing into the woods with Jackie by her side.
This was her chance to fix the worst mistake she ever did. And she would.
Shauna Shipman would not lose Jackie Taylor. Not ever. Not a second.

Shauna doesn’t say anything but give a shy nod when Jackie finally looks at her again, causing the bile to rise in Jackie’s throat and her head start spinning. She shoves it down, steadying herself on the pavement.
“You’re drunk.”
“Yeah. Maybe.” Shauna sniffles and wipes at her nose with her sleeve. “Can we please go home and just forget about this?”

Jackie’s head snapped up, turning to face Javi, who had spoken tentatively as if he were afraid of the consequences. Fuck, she had almost forgotten he was even there — just how long had she gone silent for?
“What? No!” she scoffed incredulously, not even missing a beat. Her response had escaped so fast that she couldn’t even pretend to believe herself, and she knew Javi didn’t believe her either.
“I think,” Javi stared at his nails, clawing out the dirt beneath, his next words coming out slow and careful. “that she misses you too.”
Or, after falling out with Shauna, Jackie doesn't know what to do with herself. Thankfully, one twelve year old boy might be enough to glue them back together.
