He meets her gaze, steady. “Yeah.”
Lucy watches him for a long beat, her eyes narrowing slightly. Like she’s trying to reconcile the version of Tim who thrives on competition and camaraderie, with the one standing here in her kitchen, bag of curry in hand. “Wait,” she says, realizing, her eyes lighting up with... Hope? Appreciation? Love? “You skipped out on celebrating the win? For me?”

Celina glanced around, making sure no one else was eavesdropping, then lowered her voice conspiratorially. “Well, for starters, he’s… nice.”
Nolan chuckled. “Tim? Nice ?”
“Yes!” Celina threw her hands up in the air, exasperated. “I know it sounds crazy, but he is. He even asked me if I was settling in okay and if I needed anything like, three times in one week. Three times! The man who wouldn’t let me sip water during rookie training suddenly cares about my comfort level?”
“Sounds like Bradford’s been domesticated,” Harper teased.
“That’s not even the half of it,” Celina muttered. She glanced at them, her eyes wide with disbelief. “He bakes cookies.”
There was a stunned silence. Then, all at once—
“ Cookies ?!” they chorused.
“Yes! Cookies!” Celina waved her hands. “I came home one day, and the kitchen smelled like vanilla. I thought it was Lucy’s shampoo at first, you know how nice she always smells. But it wasn’t. He was wearing an apron and taking a tray of perfectly baked chocolate chip cookies out of the oven.”
Miles burst out laughing. “Sergeant Bradford, in an apron? I’m going to need a picture to believe that.”
