Growing up as an esteemed Rhyhorn racer’s son meant that Calem was always on the move, never staying in one place long enough to create any meaningful bonds or relationships.
With this loneliness and accompanying low self esteem, he becomes a reclusive defeatist. Finally moving to Kalos, Calem is given the chance of a lifetime to break free from his doubt. Yet his path is far more treacherous than he'd bargained for. The machinations of Team Flare threaten to extinguish not only the Kalos region, but the very flame of Life itself.

A dull ringing rose in her ears. She scanned and re-scanned the last sentence, as though staring at it would make it change, but it still said the same thing: "Your scores do not qualify you to receive one of the three starter Pokémon."
Well, there it was, the answer spelled out in black and white. She wasn't good enough, and that was that.
