Summary
When an Eridian probe picks up on what sounds like a human voice, on a planet that wasn't previously on any starmaps, of course Grace has to go investigate what it is. He wasn't sure what he expected to find, but a welded shut submarine with a man trapped inside certainly wasn't it.
Now having accidentally kidnapped said man back to Erid, Grace and Simon will have to learn what it's like to be human again, and if being human is enough to make them friends. -

Simon paused his kisses. “How did you see this going?”

Grace couldn’t even remember what he wanted to say. Actually, there were no words that described what he wanted. “No. No, keep going.”

Or Eridians find Simon's submarine while spreading Astrophage to the galaxy and bring him back to Erid. Grace has to change his normal routine to help this new human adjust to life. Slowly, they get to know one another, despite Simon potentially being a war criminal from a moon with an ocean full of blood. But there's just something else about Simon that Grace can't shake, and he's pretty sure Simon feels it too... -

Simon—or the convict, has just passed out in the Iron Lung. While Ryland Grace’s Hail Mary ship is above, he wants closer for a look. He eventually spots a chain and lowers the Mary down to grab it. Without crashing into the weird blood ocean he gets the chain and drags it up. The chain having a metal tube connected to the end. He starts to pull it up, connecting it to the Mary. When he does so he opens the hatch, blood spilling out and—there’s a figure.? What in the galaxy has he gotten himself into…
