Summary
“Oh, Feyre.” His voice was low, dangerous. Intimate. “I’m anything but safe. For you.”
How dare he!
“You don’t know what I want.” Her chin lifted. “Or what’s good for me.”
“Don’t I?” He said quietly. “I see you. I see all the pieces you think you’re hiding.”
She stepped back, blanching. “What—what do you mean?”
“You think I haven’t noticed?” Rhys sounded pained. “How you catalog every exit? The way you hold your breath when people get too close?” Another step. “I see the weight, the secrets carving you hollow." His face darkened. "I don’t need to know what they are, but don’t stand there claiming you want complications when you’re drowning in battles you won’t let anyone help fight.”
She felt stripped bare, exposed, yet blind with defiance.“You think Tarquin would be simpler?” Bitter laughter spilled out. “You think anyone would be simple right now?” He was close now—his heat and cologne making her dizzy. She couldn't believe how deeply he’d seen her. “I don’t need saving, Rhys.” Feyre met his gaze unflinchingly. “And I don’t want safe.”
His eyes flared. “Then tell me, Feyre—what do you want?” A pause. Vulnerability flickered. “And why won’t you reach for it?”Bookmarked by Thenshesmiled19
