Summary
Dirk, the manipulator of timelines, the one man who took control of the narrative to begin a new session, an unstoppable force, was losing at Chess to a Lord English Wannabe. A voice who he'd assumed was just his own desperate imagination trying to rekindle some image of his former love for some joy now sat before him, a victorious Jake from a Timeline much different than his own. Dirk refused to leave this dream without one win.

Summary
Dirk is contacted by a mysterious online stranger about a robotics project. He decides it’s worth his time to help out after a long stint of depression triggered by his messy break up with Jake. Secretly Jake is behind the messages, telling himself he is only doing this for the project he needs help on. Both wish they weren’t such messes and miss one another, leading to some stalkerish behavior from Jake.

Summary
Dirk enrolls in his school’s theatre class for the extra English credit offered- and some pressuring by his dad to go make some new friends. There he meets Jake- stagehand and former actor. Jake quickly befriends him, and they fall in love.
However Jake, has never and will not tell Dirk that he is in fact an amphibian sub-classification of mermaid, and can shapeshift into his human form. One day, Nana gets too sick for them to remain in the city, and they must return to the lake that they moved away from. Jake tells Dirk he’s leaving and cannot tell him why, and this escalates into a breakup, ending their four year long relationship.
Jake leaves with his Nana and younger sister, Jade, back to the lake. There they find that the entire population of the rest of their species has died off mysteriously, leaving them all alone. Nana soon dies, and Jake plans to return back to the city with Jade- until Jade falls into a coma. Jake refuses to leave Jade alone by herself, and he is now stuck- forever unable to leave.
He’s all on his own for years, until one day a human suddenly falls into the lake.
