Vi doesn't look up from the buttons of Caitlyn's blouse, still opened and baring her chest to the quiet serenity of the office. Frown lines dance across her forehead as Vi tries to fit the tiny things into their respective frustrating holes.
“Seems like that's kinda the point of this whole bargain, isn't it?”
Caitlyn furrows her eyebrows. “You keep talking about an arrangement, a… bargain, but I’m not sure I follow you. What – how exactly is this supposed to work?”
Vi laughs, and Caitlyn supposes she must be quite funny in her ignorance. “How it works is you get me all these nice things I never even asked for, and in return, I fuck your smart brains out. Simple as that.”

Summary
Ms. Goodkind stands up, and walks up to Toni. She’s taller even without her heels on, as if her power over Toni was genetic, natural, something that couldn’t be changed.
«It’s no problem, ma’am.»
«I’d like you to call me Shelby, when we’re alone.»
Toni feels the dangers of that. But again, she cannot disobey, so she nods once, and keeps silent.
Ms. Goodkind’s lips turn upwards, as if understanding straight away what Toni is doing. If she can avoid punishment, she will, of course. Even beasts like her know self-preservation.
«Say the words, Toni.»
Toni’s heart rate increases, and suddenly, perhaps because of the setting, perhaps because of Ms. Goodkind’s assertiveness, Toni feels like challenging her all over again, like she’s been doing for the past few years, until Andrew’s death.

“Family trouble. Interesting,” Toni says. She thinks about the bottle of vodka Shelby bought at the gas station that day, and what that might have to do with the family issues.
“Stop. You’re becoming, like, Malfoy-level obsessed with her,” Martha says. Toni sits up abruptly, “I am not. Also, stop referencing your gay Harry Potter ships in my presence.”
Toni doesn't expect to fall for anyone in her senior year. Least of all for Shelby Goodkind, the new girl that arrived in town just before the end of summer. In fact, Toni can't even look at her for longer than two seconds, or listen to more than three sentences coming out of her mouth without wanting to accidentally push her off a cliff.
