    Vampires are Gay (an essay by me)
    I think it’s interesting how monsters in media so often relate to themes of queerness. It's filled with this persistent idea that to be queer is to be “other” —to be some carnal, consuming thing of desire. It’s shown as tragic, and crude, and humiliating. The unfortunate thing is, that idea isn’t entirely wrong. To be queer is to be other (at least in the lens of social construction) And to understand the connection between monsters and queerness, it’s necessary to look to the creatures that perpetuate our films, TV shows, and novels, and ask what, exactly, they’re meant to represent.
