Summary
Is it better to live on your knees or die on your feet? Tanya, born again into a Japan under occupation, has fought to survive for five long years since the Britannian Conquest of Area 11. Death comes easily in Shinjuku Ghetto: Starvation is rampant, disease is common, and Britannian justice is arbitrary and capricious. After her mother is left dead on the street, Tanya is forced to decide whether she is content to die under the tyrannical system, or to stand in rebellion against the endless horror.
Naoto has just started to get his embryonic resistance cell off the ground. With weapons provided by his father and the backing of his college friends, he's ready to bring the war to the Britannians occupying his homeland, when Ohgi brings home another half-Britannian, a newly orphaned waif, fresh off the street.
Tanya has finally found an opportunity for a better life; Naoto has finally found a weapon he can turn on Britannia. One way or another, Shinjuku won't go quietly when the hammer falls.

Summary
“Fantastic. And why are you here? You’re free. I don’t want to see your face. Get the hell out and leave me be.” So I can lick my wounds in private.
“Oh, you know,” Alastor sing-songs. He pulls up a chair next to the sick bed, hops down on it, and primly crosses his legs. “After spending so much time here over the last week, I think I’ve gotten used to your hospitality. Maybe I miss being around you already!”
Vox knows Alastor is being sarcastic. He knows. And usually, he’d be able to shrug it off.
But he’s so damn beaten down already, the words are like a knife to the heart, making him bleed.
“I don’t want your fucking gloating,” he snarls. “You won. Is that what you wanted to hear? You were right about me, and I’ve failed, again, like you told me I would. Big fucking hurray to you. Go celebrate your victory with Princess Friendship.”
In the aftermath of Vox’s
mass-murder-suicide attemptfailed uprising, Alastor gives him a visit. It changes nothing, but it helps.Series

Summary
In one glorious half-hour, Alastor has broken or completed three contracts, freed himself from two separate forms of bondage, and enjoyed a rousing jaunt through nearly half the Pentagram. Incidentally, he may also have shattered Vox’s psyche and his heart. But you know what they say about making omelettes; that was a price he was prepared to pay.
He is less prepared to be personally tasked with unscrambling the eggs.

Summary
“You are under the influence of aphrodisiacs,” Alastor surmises.
Vox rolls his eyes. “Yep.”
“And Valentino is expecting you to use me to relieve that.”
“Yep.”
“But you are not planning on raping me?”
Vox flinches. “The fuck? Of course not! I mean—” His flush brightens. “I could. Don’t think I couldn’t, or wouldn’t. I will have whoever I want, baby! But that’s not the sort of win I want over you. I know it wouldn’t break you, and that’s no fun. And you’d hate it.”
“I think that is rather the point,” Alastor says, slowly, like he’s talking to an idiot.
Valentino is fed up with Vox obsessing over their captive but not following through and decides to push the issue by drugging him. It changes nothing, and everything.

Summary
“Vox,” Alastor says, with saintlike patience. He may as well practice, given how much he’s obviously going to need it imminently. “I really do think that you should, at a minimum, bring flowers.”
“She’s a high-powered businesswoman,” Vox dismisses. “I know you’re old-fashioned, Al, but Velvette’s right. Powerful women don’t actually like being treated like a hot date you can bribe with flowers and chocolates.”
God help them all. No, really. Is it too late to start praying?
“This is a terrible time for your feminist awakening,” Alastor snaps. “You said it yourself—Rosie is my dearest friend. And as bribes go, she likes roses.”
Vox narrows his eyes at Alastor with actual hurt in them. Oh, what now.
“I can’t believe you’re actually admitting it,” he says.
---
(In his grand campaign to win the favor of every major Overlord, Vox may have met his match with Rosie. Good thing he has his old pal Alastor to help!)
