Summary
“What are you doing?” Mack asks, eyeing the scoop of protein powder Will’s precariously holding in one hand as he works to open a bag of frozen blueberries with the other.
“Uhm, making my smoothie?” Will says it like a question, like Mack’s asking him something stupidly obvious. He dumps the powder in, watching it land with an unceremonious splat against the large scoop of yogurt he’s already put in.
*****
It starts off innocent, really. They’re getting to the point in the season where their summer bulk is almost a forgotten memory between the late nights and grueling games. It’s nothing new, hockey players fluctuate throughout the season, if anything it’s normal.

Summary
Will understood conceptually that Mack had had braces, vague memories of metal tracks hidden behind his cage during face-offs while they were younger. He also knew that over the last few months the gap between Mack’s front teeth had been gradually widening, enough that he had developed a soft lisp that Will wasn’t sure whether he wanted to chirp him or coo at him about.
However, he had never really had to come to terms with these facts until now, standing on the front step of Jumbo’s guesthouse, a flash of dazzling silver gleaming from Mack’s lips when he said hi. He didn’t notice himself moving until his fingers were already in Mack’s mouth, thumbs pushing on his jaw, coaxing his mouth open. His fingers pulling Mack’s upper lip away from his teeth revealing brand-new, shining braces attached to Mack’s front six teeth, canine to canine.

Summary
Leno pulls off, after a moment, hovering by his ear. “Is he looking?”
Will blinks a few times, eyes snapping past the wall to where Macklin stands, just to see the same sight he’s been seeing for the past twenty minutes, at least. “Obviously not,” he hisses, and he feels stupid that he even looked.
“He will.”
--
Across the bar, Will laughs, and Mack glances up. There’s a distant thought in there, about how he’s so in tune with Will on the ice that he knows where he is off it as well, can pick out his laugh in the sparse crowd of a dispersing bar, but the thought dies when he catches sight of him.
Will’s eyes are closed, head thrown back and biting his lip at whatever the fuck Leno is doing: head bowed and clearly mouthing at Will’s fucking neck. He’s got a hand in Leonard’s hair, pulling, and Mack’s mouth goes dry.
He’s walking over before he even realizes what he’s doing.
--
or, Mack doesn't exactly know why he dislikes Ryan Leonard. What he does know, is that he absolutely cannot let Will leave with him.

Summary
Will was his best friend. He knew him in a way that felt almost unfair, like he could read the things Mack didn't even say out loud. On the ice, off the ice—it didn't matter. Will always knew.
He knew what he needed.
When he needed it.
How to give it.
