"Yeah, dating apps are garbage," Nile mutters, twirling her straw. "All surface, too many expectations."
"Exactly." Joe pauses, casts his eyes across the plethora of patio goers in their vicinity. "Patience is a virtue, I guess."
Quynh is still looking thoughtful. "You know," she says, "my girlfriend knows a lot of people in town. I'll ask if she might know someone for you."
In which Joe isn't really sure what he wants, but he's hoping he'll know when he finds it.

Summary
It’s unfortunate that Nicky was at the same nightclub as him tonight, that Joe spotted him across the room throwing back shots, that Joe was unable to look away from the long line of his throat. It’s even more unfortunate that Nicky caught his eye and smiled so fucking widely before coming over to greet him; there was no polite way to escape the interaction, and all Joe could do was match Nicky shot for shot.
Nicky’s hand was clumsy on his arm, Nicky’s breath was mostly vodka ghosting over his face, when he leaned close and asked Joe if maybe he’d like to get out of there.
Joe was drunk as fuck and unable to say anything besides, “Sorry, I don’t fuck Christian missionaries.”
(In which Nicky thinks the mission trips he went on as a teen are a net positive for the world and Joe has a problem with that. (Un)Fortunately, it's not enough to stop him from hooking up with Nicky.)

“And what’s that supposed to mean?” Nicky hissed, his voice low and throaty, Joe had to strain to hear it over the noisy crowd and the thumping beat of the music.
“It means what you think it does,” Joe said, tilting his head to the side and looking into Nicky’s eyes, seeing the dark flecks speckling the irises for the first time. “I’ve been drawing you for some time now… I’ve never seen you touch anyone.”

Summary
“Hello there, gorgeous,” came a low voice from behind Joe that made the hairs at the back of his neck stand on end. He recognized that voice instantly; a tantalizing mix of terror and excitement flooded through him.
“Lorenzo,” the man introduced himself, leaning against the bar and extending a hand to Joe, self-assured and confident, almost cocky.
Nicky and Joe roleplay a fantasy: Lorenzo, Nicky's alter ego for certain missions, finds Joe at a club and coerces him into very dubiously-consensual sex. Later, Nicky takes Joe back to their hotel and punishes him for "cheating." Joe thoroughly enjoys all of it, as does Nicky.
