It’s Christmas Eve 2007 in the alternate universe of “Turn Left.” The night the Racnoss attacked London and the Doctor was there to stop them. The night the Doctor died. You don’t really think there's any universe in which Melody Pond would have been anywhere ELSE that night, do you?

Summary
In which the Twelfth Doctor’s refusal to regenerate is all about River Song and so is his change of heart. In which River is with him (and/or his thoughts are with River) during his final battle. In which choosing to regenerate after all is, to quote Madonna, “just like a prayer.” In which River is always there to him and he always listens. In which this doesn’t change with the face. In which Twelve regenerates into Thirteen and there is ALWAYS a Song.
Written in the last week of 2017 when I was thinking about the most wonderful ways the Thirteenth Doctor’s fall at the end of "Twice Upon a Time" could go—all of which included River Song. So—ALSO in which you get two alternate what-happened-next imaginings of the Doctor’s fall. Now with added River!

Huffing out the last of his indignant laugher, Matt fixed her with a salacious grin, his eyes training on her like he would a present under the Christmas tree. She knew his next question would be a doozy. She couldn’t lie, even to herself: she was more than a little looking forward to the next inappropriate question.
"Okay, Kingston. Your turn now." She could see the cogs turning in his head, his mind obviously jumping between the different options available to him, trying to decide which of his questions would yield the best results from her. Mere seconds after the TARDIS was fully formed, the door creaked open slowly, as if he were being deliberate and careful in his movements. Then his head whipped out, the dark quiff of hair falling over his eyes in that utterly perfect way she adored. When his gaze rested on her, laying in bed, another version of him right beside her, his eyes gleamed, dark and heavy, as a smirk slid across his lips.
