    Summary

“Magnus—” Clary looked back up, and immediately wished she hadn’t. The cold, ancient fury that was rapidly settling into his skin made her flinch instinctively. She waited for a lightbulb to break, or the floor to start trembling, but nothing happened. Magnus had a tight rein on his magic, and that frightened Clary more than any outburst. She was abruptly reminded of how warlocks were born.

    Summary

Alec is still standing just to the right of him and Magnus gestures fondly for Alec to join him on the plush leather seat. Alec smiles at him softly, evenly, and Magnus is helpless against returning that smile just as fondly even though he usually keeps himself sharper-edged here at his court.

And then, keeping his lover’s gaze, Alec drops gracefully to his knees in front of Magnus and Magnus’s breath catches sharply in his throat. Alec, however, just stretches up a single hand and gently rubs a soothing thumb over Magnus’s velvet-clad knee as though in one action he hasn’t just overturned thousands of years of tradition and practice.

    Summary

"Magnus could tell Alexander wanted to say more. Alexander was a quiet man until he wasn’t, until politics or passion demanded his voice. And then he spoke so many beautiful words, words that Magnus practiced in his mind until they were engraved there. But this ritual was old, demanding old words. Alexander’s adherence meant more right now than his own words could. It was respect for a culture denied it for far too long. The action was a vow, as much as the words themselves were vows, that Alexander would not just honour the Downworld but join in it wholly."

Or, Magnus Lightwood-Bane, Consular High Warlock of the Americas, crowns his husband Consort.

    Summary

Face blank, Alec steps forward without a moment of hesitation to stand in front of the Inquisitor, his people parting respectfully before him to clear his path as he goes. He comes to a halt a few paces in front of the Clave representative and the guardsmen she’d brought from Alicante. A coiled leather whip hangs from the belt of the man at her left shoulder.

Shoulders drawn back and hands clasped behind his waist, Alec meets Imogen Herondale’s steel gaze. The words are ritual and although Alec has said them many times before, never before has he meant them less.

“That it may please the Angel to bring back into the way of righteousness all such as have erred, I place myself before you for Discipline.”

    Imogen Herondale smiles.

    Summary

Jace blinks, peering at the loft in vague stupefaction. “This,” and Alec’s parabatai’s voice sounds like he’s dragging each noise out from his exhausted mind and forcing it out before he can forget what word he just discovered. “Isn’t the Institute?” The final phrase comes out as a question.

Alec tilts his head in puzzlement, glancing at his brother as if wondering how he could possibly consider that Alec had taken them there instead of here. “No?”

Alec’s head moves back to level and he narrows his eyes instead. “We said we were going home after patrol.”

The ‘ergo, we are home now’ wasn’t said, but it was obvious in implication.
