Peter had dimples when he smiled wide, like he was doing then, looking at the empty plate then up to her eyes and then back down to the plate. Jean liked seeing them.
(Jean didn’t think about how much she also liked seeing the corners of his brown eyes crinkle with laughter, or that she’d noticed them glow like honey in the morning sun some days, or that she chased the soft pink that sometimes bloomed on his face when he was flustered.
No, she only thought about the dimples, and how maybe no one else had seen them in years.)

Summary
Peter Parker had long since come to terms with the fact that the life of Spider-Man was the only one he was allowed to live. Trying anything else, trying to be more had only ever ended in tragedy.
Peter Parker could not be Peter Parker.
But Spider-Man was not perfect, either. Spider-Man had failed to save Jean Grey. Spider-Man could never have saved Jean Grey. Peter Parker was the only one who could do that.
And now, Peter Parker was Jean Grey's only tether in the world. A tether that had nearly unravelled as soon as she had found it. A tether she refused to lose like she had lost her last. A tether she would never abandon.
And so, once more, he would be made to balance both Spider-Man and Peter Parker. But would he finally succeed this time?

Jean Grey has been enrolled in Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters for a couple of weeks now.
She usually keeps to herself, so most of the other students and faculty don’t know much about her.
They know three things.
She’s a powerful telepath and telekinetic.
She had a sister named Sara she lost.
And most recently, they learned she’s a big fan of Spider-Man. Emphasis on BIG.
She constantly denies the last one, no matter how obvious it is to everyone else. They thought it was a cute crush.
They didn’t exactly know just how…invested she was in him. But they will soon.

The story of the X-Men learning about Jean’s interest in Spider-Man, and how much she’s into him. They might need to have a chat with her about it.
