Summary
A year after the lectures in Gusu, Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian shared their first kiss in secret at an inn. And then their second and third and then one more and one more until they lost count. They laid together in the same bed that night, arms around each other, sharing breath as they pressed their foreheads together. There they made plans for how they would tell their families. They decided to wait until the Cultivator Conference in Qishan. They’d ask after the last competitions. When everything else was out of the way and only festivities remained. After that they’d be able to stop hiding. They’d be able to meet whenever they wanted. They’d have each other. Forever.
But it did not happen like that, at the competition everything went wrong.

Summary
In hindsight it had been a mistake. He shouldn't have gone after the creature by himself. But maybe it would be worth it in the end? Dying while protecting innocent people from certain harm, was the cultivator way to go after all. Maybe, it was worth it. If the last thing that he did was an act that no one in the cultivator world could condemn him for. He had acted as a cultivator should, no tricks, no resentful energy. Just him, his Suibian and his golden core, and the creature. At least this time he would die an honourable man. Maybe, this time some people other than Lan Zhan would grieve him. He might even deserve it this time.

One moment the man was up, and then, the next second, he had gracefully jumped from the wall in front of Wei Ying, who, only by the strength of his will, did not scream in alarm.
He did yelp a little. But very manfully.
“No entry after sunset,” said the man, and his voice was deeper than Wei Ying could’ve guessed. “How did you get past the wards?”
