Summary
Buck remembers reading something once. He’s not sure where or when, and he’s not even sure who said it. But he’ll never forget the words. He’ll never forget the way they burrowed beneath his skin like an arrow aiming straight for his heart. Those words had made him ache back then, but now the memory of them is ripping him apart.
Someone has to leave first. This is a very old story. There is no other version of this story.
He’d always known it would be Eddie who would walk away first, but he hadn’t expected it to go like this. He hadn’t expected it to hurt quite so bad.
(Or, five times Buck thought Eddie would leave, and the one time he knew he would stay.)

Summary
Buck can feel the sob Eddie tries to hold back - can hear the whimper that manages to slip past his lips. It tears something open inside of Buck, and it feels like whatever is left of his heart starts leaking into the space between their bodies and staining their chests crimson.
“Tell me you love me,” Eddie begs.
“I love you,” Buck promises.
And he just wishes that it could be enough.

Summary
“Twenty pounds,” Eddie says to Hen on the firehouse couch, who’s eating a ham sandwich and reading a medical magazine.
“Huh?” She asks, because she has no context.
“I’ve gained twenty pounds since Buck and I started dating. That’s five months, that’s — that’s a lot, right?”
“Not really,” Hen lowers her magazine, “that seems like normal relationship weight, Eddie.”
Eddie leans on the couch, framing his forehead with his hand. “Buck’s gonna ruin me,” he says, completely ignoring her.
“Already happened,” Chimney says, deciding to sit on the arm of the couch. “What are we talking about?”
After gaining some weight in a happy relationship, Eddie is forced to examine his relationship with food, his body, and his self-worth.
