Summary
There was the sound of the door shutting. A few footsteps.
“She’s not here?” the voice asked.
Zoey dropped her voice lower, almost conspiratorial. “No. She went out—probably won’t be back for, like… fifteen, twenty minutes.”
A beat of silence. Then a quiet chuckle. “Good. Then I can steal you for a while.”
There was a nervous little hiccup of laughter from Zoey. “Wait—don’t get too close, I’m still live—”
“I’ll stay out of frame,” the voice promised, tone coaxing.
The sound of a hand brushing fabric, then a soft shuffle—the mic catching the rustle as Zoey was pulled slightly sideways. A faint smack of lips meeting. Quick. Too quick to be mistaken.
Chat slowed to a crawl.

Percy Jackson, Demigod son of Poseidon, He Who Held The Sky, Survivor of Tartarus, Gaias’ Bane, Olympus’ Saviour, and so many other titles he didn’t care to remember, had fought many battles for far too long. He was tired, but he would still fight if it meant that those he loved would be safe. Although all that fighting seemed to be for naught and here he was standing before the most powerful beings to exist. Too many lives were lost in the last eight years during their wars and the Fates have decided he would be the one to fix it all. To go back to fix everything and to make sure the Prophecy doesn't come to pass. Thank the Fates that the most important things were all documented in several books. Fuck the Fates that the books were all from his point of view.

The Fates decided that while the Gods of Olympus may have seen Percy's feats, the Seven's efforts, and Apollo's dramatic struggling, they do not truly know just how dangerous and stressful those...accomplishments were. And neither do most demigods.
The solution? Make them read. Every last thought and wish and experience from their kids' perspective. Make them understand just how painstakingly difficult it was to be the ones on the quests that the Gods seem to throw out like prizes.

The fire crackled and flickered as a soft breeze whooshed by. Hestia watched as images she did not will to life passed through the fire, too quickly to decipher. Her eyes widened as each moment in time embedded itself in her head. Her swelled and broke and melted and sank and mended and shattered and rejoiced. The past made her ache, the present made her restless, the future made her terrified.
