“Hey,” he calls. “You alright?”
No response.
“Ellie?”
It’s the first time he’s actually used her name, which he thought might mean he got some sort of response, but no. She just clumsily gets to her feet, swaying a little bit. For a moment he thinks she’s just answering the call of nature, but then she flops down about as gracelessly as a toddler and shoves her feet into her converse, the left on the right and the right on the left.
It’s then he thinks there might be something else at play.
