The heat in the moment made Zoey’s tank top even more transparent, to the point where you could see the bulges of her spine. It was like staring at a Greek renaissance painting. Mira leaned her head in to rest her chin on Zoey’s shoulder, and she hummed in response. Rumi took her hand over Zoey and reached for Mira’s hair. It was more subtle than it sounds, but the outcome wasn’t. Mira leaned her head right onto the cusp of Rumi’s fingers and the pillow that was her palm. No hesitation. Zoey stared at Rumi, bringing Mira closer and behind them. The desperation was too real. Too close. Rumi stared back at her, where they both held gazes engulfed with too many emotions to process, but one was clear. They wanted this.
At the same moment Zoey took Rumi’s neck in her palm to kiss her lips, Mira angled her head to kiss Zoey’s neck from the crook behind. She latched onto Zoey as if she couldn’t bear to see her or Rumi part, and at the moment of truth, the moment where everything almost clicked into place, the moment where the final puzzle piece almost finished the picture, a screeching demon arose from the floor, with a few others staring behind.

Summary
Rumi’s drowning. They could see it, and yet life moved on like normal. But she still struggled, until one night when it was only her and Zoey left in the house. It happened so fast, without warning.. and Zoey had to be the one to keep her afloat.
Rumi was so impossibly mad at herself.
For wanting to do it, for not doing it, no one answer was going without her breaking down, eating her alive.
“Don’t let me go…” Rumi sounded afraid. So genuinely afraid, that it shook Zoey to the core as she tightened her hold on Rumi in reflex to the desperate plea. It was just them.. Zoey had to do this, she had to be strong for the both of them. She was petrified, blinking back the tears in her eyes and cradling her lover gently.
“I’m not.. I promise.”
Mira had never answered a call faster at midnight.
