The easiest thing would be to clear His Highness’s name by presenting them with the real culprit of the Gilded Banquet. The trouble with that was that, since routing Qi Rong’s den a few weeks ago, Hua Cheng had yet to discover the worm’s newest hiding hole. He immediately directed his butterflies to search, but who knew how long that would take? And in the interim, who knew what could befall His Highness?
Hua Cheng would have to intervene. He’d bring His Highness to Paradise Manor and keep him there until Qi Rong could be found and his name cleared. As greatly as he’d fucked up, as unworthy he was to even look at his God, he still had to intervene and prevent Xie Lian from accepting further punishment and martyring himself.

Hua Cheng shifts, jolting Xie Lian back into the moment, and before he can even stop himself he whispers “then don’t.”“What?”
Locking eyes with Hua Cheng, Xie Lian steels himself, spreading his legs slightly in preparation for what he hopes is about to happen. “Don’t be good.”

“But there are rules.” Hua Cheng says. Xie Lian nods, just happy to be given some access to what he has craved for years. “Let me be clear, you may only use your hands. And no part of me will be entering you…anywhere. Is that clear?”Or Xie Lian gets quite tipsy and spends his evening trying (and succeeding) to seduce Hua Cheng. “I’m home, San Lang,” Xie Lian greeted with a tired smile. “Sorry again that I ended up being gone for so long. I really thought it would only take a day to deal with it all. Mu Qing even ended up calling down additional officials to help us speed things up.”
Xie Lian yawned, striding around the corner of Hua Cheng’s throne-like seat and lightly plopping down in his lap, snaking his arms around his neck and nuzzling his nose into the soft and cool skin of his throat. He felt Hua Cheng tense under him, his arms hovering around his torso for a couple of seconds before he started to relax. Hua Cheng’s arms slowly enveloped him, his hold becoming more and more secure as Xie Lian continued to nuzzle his neck.
“I’m just glad to finally be home…” Xie Lian mumbled, giving in to another yawn and closing his eyes. As Xie Lian’s breathing evened out, Hua Cheng was left with only one possible conclusion. That this must all be one extremely detailed, extremely evil, and extremely happy dream…
Or, Xie Lian unwittingly gets hit by a time travelling spell while fighting demons and is sent back to a time where he and Hua Cheng have yet to reunite.
