    Dennis took a shaky step back, the weight of his past pressing down. Robby’s arm wrapped around him without hesitation.

    “Well, rest assured, you don’t need to worry about him. Because I’m here now.”

    Caleb, who’d been quiet until then, spat with venom, “And who the fuck are you to decide that?”

    Robby pulled Dennis closer, eyes locked on his brothers. “I’m his husband.”

    Robby had operated illegally on a patient, with Dennis being the only witness. The hospital pushed Dennis to give Robby up while something darker and more political brewed. At the same time, Dennis' family invoked conservatorship, demanding he return. In that moment of crisis, Robby claimed Dennis as his husband—protecting them both from losing everything.
