“No, stop, you can’t give up yet!” Momo argued, refusing to simply accept that Kyoka was going to die.
“I… I can hear your heartbeat,” Kyoka continued, letting her head rest heavily on Momo’s chest, “It’s always… always been comfortin’.”
Her voice was getting fainter and fainter, and Momo’s eyes widened in silent horror. She couldn’t die. But here she was, in her arms, fading away. Ashes from the raging fires around them began falling, like little, dull snowflakes. Charming, deceiving snowflakes that would burn your skin if you touched them.
Momo’s skin blistered at the contact, and so did Kyoka’s, but to Kyoka it only felt like a distant tingling sensation. She couldn’t really feel her limbs anymore.
Kyoka forced her eyes open, catching sight of the falling ashes, drifting aimlessly through the air and sprinkling across the ground. They left angry, red marks on Momo’s exposed collarbones, and embedded themselves in her hair. She exhaled, probably as much of a chuckle or a laugh that she could manage in her state.

Summary
It's winter in Tokyo, so Momo and Kyoka decide to take a three-day vacation to Bali for some much needed rest and relaxation. Plus, it's nice to get away from the snow and cold. As pro heroes, they don't often get to take time for themselves, and it's a nice change of pace.
They spend the day doing touristy things, and by the time they return to their cottage on the beach, all Momo wants is to lay in a hammock with Kyoka and watch the sun set. Her younger self would be ecstatic to know how far their relationship has come. And Momo is starting to think about taking it a step farther. Someday soon, she wants to make Kyoka her wife.
Then Momo makes a casual comment, and her life changes forever.
