Summary
Langdon woke up on Saturday morning. Tension crawled up his body, trying to devour him—his neck first, then his head, then his chest. He had received a message from Pittsburgh Hospital the day before a call for the Fourth of July shift. They wanted all available staff on deck, and after ten whole months away from that place, Langdon was in their eyes available.
This would be his first day back since his last painful shift. His last shift had been on PittFest Day—the day his addiction was exposed, the day several of his closest relationships began to unravel, including those with Robby, Abby, and Dana. His life had been turned upside down, shifting from the chaos of the ER and the constant noise of his anxious mind to complete silence, with nothing loud enough to fill it except the chirping of birds.
