Summary
Avdol has a nightmare for the first time in months, and it reminds him of his situation within life.
While traveling, he has spent much of his life around Stand users, tracking down the vicious assassins of the Tarot, and pondering when his battle will end. Now, tangled up in the battle of the Joestar bloodline, the Tarots he once fought are mostly dead or beaten beyond the capacity to fight; his battle has indeed ended, for the moment. The Stand users he knew before have been drastically affected, dead, fleshbudded, or in hiding due to Dio's mass efforts to track them down.
Through that, Polnareff is a comfort, a steady reminder that Avdol isn't alone in the world.

Summary
They stay in New York in the wake of both of their recoveries, Avdol for his arms and Polnareff for physical therapy in his hand and foot. Over the course of their journey, both of them were adrift, albeit for different times and in different directions, but they somehow managed to wash up on the same shore. One searched for the white whale, speared it, but either the dry land stopped looking the same, or his heart started looking upon it differently. The other knew the shark infested waters, the storms and shipwrecks until they were gone, and returned to find that he’d never spent enough time ashore to love it.
But if they did throw themselves back into the ocean, from their longing crawled a quiet understanding that if they did drown, they would do it struggling to save one another.
