Every day, either just as dawn laid its rosy fingers on the sky or just as the night drew down its dark cloak, Penelope knelt on the worn stone before it and prayed.
“Bright-eyed lady,” she said, hands pressed together in the earliest dawn light, “goddess of wisdom, show my husband the way home, and let him be clever enough to see it.”
Penelope, on a day that she has not yet realized will be the first day of the rest of her life.
