Alex sighs and rolls his eyes. “Will you give up already? I can deal with him.”
“Christ, I’m not saying you can’t,” Henry says exasperatedly, “I’m saying you don’t have to. You carry so much, Alex. I’m simply trying to help you lighten the load in any infinitesimal way you’ll let me.”
“And having a guy you hate move in with you is somehow only an infinitesimal inconvenience to you?”
Henry gives Alex a tired, cold look and clenches his jaw. “If it gets you away from your transphobic roommate,” he says, low but vehement, “then yes. Christ, Alex, you’re not a bloody inconvenience.”Or: Henry learns how to cook, and Alex learns to let people take care of him.

“Sweetheart,” Alex says gently, “A blindfolded six-year-old would beat you in a fight right now. I’m not worried about you running off with my twelve tons of textbooks and empty coffee cups.”
Henry makes a valiant effort to glare at him, but his eyes flutter shut and he frowns like he’s not sure how it happened. He manages to blink them back open and says, “I’m fine.”
“You’re dead on your fuckin’ feet. Tell me what day it is and I’ll let you walk outta here on your own.”
“Um.”
Alex snorts. “Nice effort. Come on. I’m taking you to my room.” He picks up Henry’s bag and slings it over his shoulder with his own, and Henry gives him a squinty little frown. “Stop being cute,” Alex says.
“You stop being cute,” Henry mumbles. Then, “Fuck. Fine, I need a nap.”Alex steals a bag, makes a friend and learns some things about himself.
