It took Buck a second, but when it clicked, his eyes went wide. “Wait… you mean—?”
Eddie nodded, the smirk fading into something softer, more serious. “Yeah. I’m in labor.”

“Oh, Edmundo,” she says and she kisses his forehead. “There’s nothing to be afraid of in the dark.”
(Eddie grows up to learn that’s not quite true. There’s plenty to be afraid of in the dark. It’s just that they’re plenty to be afraid of in the light, too.)
