Those few words he desperately wanted to say.
How do I explain?
(He’d only managed to say it to one person, and only one person, as embarrassing as it was to admit.)
Explain what? And why? His true face, the truth, the not always nice treatment subjected to him as a child? What would he even explain?
He’d done this before to someone much more understanding. Naturally, they did not comment on how he’d looked, or how pathetic he was.
(Nothing ever stood past him, after all.)
How could he ever explain what he did not know? How could he explain something so bizarre it would break the hearts of those who truly loved him, and cast aside his reputation and power.
How do I explain?
