Frieren found herself peering at the statue of Himmel the Hero standing upright before her, a sculpture well over its time now. Ever-so-slowly, her eyes traced the planes of his face, the trail of his jaw; a sight she once found comfort in being greeted with every morning, now reduced to cheap replication and faded stone.
Travel with me, Himmel had said once before, on the end of a journey that seemed like yesterday.
Before she knew it, she’d laid a hand over the now-dotted plane of his face. It felt cool under her palm.
