What?
“What?” Foolish now questions aloud, stunned. He opens his mouth, but closes it immediately again, completely out of his depth in a scenario like this. Why did he rush here to tell him that? Foolish gulps, letting a hand run down his forehead, downwards, covering his eyes as he continues. There’s a hint of uncertainty in his voice. “You’re so stupid. I’m assuming there’s more to the story than that, right?”

DAY 1: FANCHILD
Foolish releases a wet cough. He looks down at the sleeping figure still in his arms, cheeks puffed out, the tell-tale fall and rise of its chest the only thing telling him it was alive. Its rosy cheeks, button nose, the small pieces of brown hair cascaded against its skull, and fingers that found themselves intertwined with his. A human in everything but the little portions of shark skin dotted on its hands, feet, and face. A cocktail of his emotions stirred together the sadness with a deep dread that settled into his bones, because it reminded him of… of….
Foolish didn’t understand.

“I had a daughter once.”
Foolish says softly, each word barely grazing past Juan's ears. They’re leaning against the wooden railing of his balcony, overlooking the serenity of the lowering sun, heads full of a simple summer buzz that seemed to infiltrate every corner. Juan swiftly turns. His body facing Foolish, attentive, with his hands slipping from the railing and face laced in open concern—it’s more emotion than he should be comfortable with showing so freely, but with them alone, he rips down every reservation. Together like this, they’re just Juan and Foolish. Nothing more. Nothing less.
So when he asks, “once?”, it's spoken like a secret held on his tongue.

Foolish had told him, weeks ago, handing him the totem in the safety of their mansion after he had been offered the job as detective for the Federation. It was a way to keep the trust, showing his fidelity to The North, even when Juan had never questioned his faith before. He had frowned at the time, not understanding the item's significance; only seeing its momentary use at keeping him alive and not the gesture it represented. He had said: “Why would I need this?”, and didn’t understand the shark totems forlorn expression.
“Just use it when you’re on the brink of death,” he had restated, firmly, his hands slipping from where their pinkies had brushed. “You’ll need it. Trust me... Trust me.”

Gasps filter throughout the table.
“Who is your person of interest?” Vegetta sighs. “We must prepare a grand wedding for such a momentous occasion.”
Ash stares openly at the people around the table. His eyes scan past everyone, pausing only on Aldo, before moving to the person sitting beside him; their second in command plus-plus. His gaze stays there. By the time Ash speaks, the whole house already expects his answer:
“Juan.”
“Absolutely not!”
