Summary
How much difference does a single sound make? If a dropped item clattering to the floor can change the lives of dozens of people and shape the future of an entire city, what might happen instead if that object didn't fall? Are some relationships fated to happened? Are some tragedies doomed to take place? What can be gained, and what would be lost, from the absence of a single noise?

“Are you alright?”
“I really like these shorts,” they mumble. “Thought I’d come say hi to them.”
She drops a kiss onto their brow. “You did, did you?”
“And this.” They pluck at the hem of her sweatshirt. “Thief.”
