"How about a dance," James's voice poured into her ear like honey.
James's hand slid from her shoulder to her hand, holding it firmly so she couldn't escape— or go curse Slughorn, which had crossed her mortified mind as they walked to the dance floor. People parted for them, their curious glances slipping from her to James, handsome and confident as he stopped in front of her and formally offered his hand in invitation.
Lily was flushed with emotion: embarrassment from the obvious attention; longing for being close to James; pain from being close enough to see the tightness in his gestures, the distance in his gold flecked eyes. Her lip threatened to tremble, her heart thundered, and for a few fragile moments, her body refused to move. But she took his hand, felt him place his other around her waist, and let herself be carried off.
Or - at the end of the war five years ago, Lily Evans was a hollow shell of herself... So she left, without saying goodbye. Now she's back, amidst magical England's finest- and of course James Potter is up to something...

JJ laughed at that, seeming completely unaffected. It ticked her off, she wanted to see him with a bruised ego, not an elevated one. “So what is it then?”
“What is what?” she asked annoyed as she sipped her drink.
“What did I do to make you hate me so much? Ya know, I can't fix it if I don't know what I did wrong.”
She rolled her eyes, “Maybe I just can't stand your personality.”
“I doubt that, I got a great personality,” he winked at her and it made her even angrier, feeling her hands ball into fists out of reflex.

Pope rolls his eyes. “He wants a coffee,” he tells Kie. “He’s just grumpy.”
“Fuck you, I’m not grumpy,” JJ says.
Pope just laughs, throws an arm around his shoulders. “Whatever you say, baby.”
Kie feels the butterflies in her stomach turn to dust.
“Just because I don’t drink your girly tea or what the fuck ever,” JJ starts, and Pope wrestles him into a headlock, noogies him affectionately.
“What do you have?” he says conversationally to Kie, who is staring at the two of them and every point of contact between them with steadily growing realisation.
Well, fuck.
