Summary
In the wake of Doom's defeat on Battleworld, and the subsequent rebuilding required, Peter is exhausted. The mask is weighing him down, and he takes a step back to begin therapy and building a support system to heal himself. Meanwhile, Jean Grey has communed with the Phoenix Force, but the memories of Battleworld and Brand New Day threatened her mental stability, causing Xavier to step in and hide away her regrets and memories of Peter and what she'd done to him.
Peter is working on furthering his education, donning the mask when he's needed, but allowing Peter Parker to breathe for the first time since Tony had showed up on his doorstep in 2016. Jean adapts to her new life as a member of the X-Men, and they live their lives separately, content.
But as their paths cross again, Jean feels the walls that Xavier put up begin to crack, and the boy who she removed from her mind finds his way back in, if by accident. So now Jean is left to wonder, who is this boy who she used to know, and why does her heart ache each time he smiles at her. She finds herself inexplicably drawn to him and the deeper she digs, the more she wishes she could remember the boy that she'd once known.
