"The walls were laughing at him.
Well, he knew they weren’t really, but it sounded melodramatic and a little mad, and that’s what everyone expected from him now. Another Hatter gone off the deep end. At least his father had been liked. But then, he’d been the harmless kind of mad. The type that sang about un-birthdays and had tea parties and spoke in half-sentences.
Not Mad like Maddox. Mad with a capital “M” because his type of Madness causes pain and suffering and rage."
And yet still, people kept trying to help him.
Or: Maddox spends some time in isolation mourning the man he might have been while some others work to free him in the background. A character study on this wonderful villain because his performance is so fun and I wanted more.

Summary
'Off with his head!' The Queen of Hearts shouted at the top of her lungs.
There was a little bit of fear inside Maddox's heart, the fear of actually loosing his head. Not that he would ever admit it. What came after the fear though, it's something else entirely. He caught eyes with Max, his son, and his eyes are laced with deep fear and shock, glancing between the Queen and Maddox, then pleading eyes to the Princess, as if he's asking her to save his father. Maddox can't help but laugh at the thought.
Don’t be silly, Maddox. He thinks to himself. It’s way too late for that.

As Maddox spends another awful night stewing in his fury and need for revenge, he’s pulled away by the call of his son. As he attempts to be as good of a father as he can, he can’t help thinking back to the day he was sent here… and all he saw that made him realize just how wrong this all was….
