Anaxagoras is not a romantic. He is not the type of scholar to write epics about his great loves. He shouldn’t ask this of her. Blasphemer and heretic as he is, he should want nothing to do with her divinity except to tear it to pieces, burn it down for his alchemy, and she should never allow him such a thing.
He shouldn’t ask this—and yet there is no flicker of surprise in her. Their threads were always meant to tangle this way—not Cerces and Mnestia, not their Coreflames, but Aglaea and Anaxagoras even with all the years of bad blood between them. It feels right, more than any prophecy.
One last chance, Aglaea thinks, as she straddles him and slowly sinks down on him, savouring the guttural noise of almost-pain that she wrenches from him as she makes him wait for her answer.
