Summary
Humans can go weeks without food. As long as they have access to water, some can even last months without biting into a hamburger or tasting the sweetness of strawberry jam on a biscuit hot out of the oven. There are drawbacks, of course, to skipping meals. Dizziness, fainting, weight loss too quick for the body to adapt to.
It’s Astarion's first table of the day. The dull, slow thump of his heartbeat rushes past his ears. His knees buckle with every step. He’s falling apart, he knows this, but with ten cents in the bank and another few days to wait until his paycheck comes in, all Astarion can do is keep putting one foot in front of the other and hope he doesn’t collapse. There’s no time to think about the metaphorical hand tightening around his stomach and throat.

Summary
None of his traveling companions speak elvish (except Halsin, but the druid was easy enough to avoid), so Astarion is safe to express some of his most secret thoughts in his native tongue, including his fantasies about a certain wizard. After all, it's not like Gale understands him. Or does he?

Summary
The statue of Mystra that Gale leaned against seemed to glower down at them with her cold, stony eyes, and the thought was thrilling, somehow, to Torin. He hoped she could see.
He hoped she was using this very statue to spy on them, in fact. To acquaint herself with the worship that Gale deserved now, deserved always. To see the way he came apart under Torin’s touch and tongue, to witness the way that Torin so devoutly sank to his knees, keen on something far from holy.
Torin shows Gale what worship is supposed to look like.
