Xiao understood what Aether needed at that moment, and slowly lowered both of them onto the ground into a more comfortable position against a rock. He looked at the tired and weak shell of the warrior he had seen but a month ago. It was as if the life energy had already left him. Aether remained effectively in his lap, still curled against his chest and gripping his arm tight as Xiao waited patiently for his breathing to even out. He resisted the urge to tuck a few of the now loose blond locks back into place.
He tried again, but with a gentler voice;
