Summary
The one thing Carol Perkins loves in the whole universe is doing hair.
A big part of it is that she’s fucking good at it. She’s been doing it all since she was tall enough to see the top of someone’s head in the chair, and watching her mother do it all for even longer: Highlights and bangs and those big updos girls want for prom. She dreams about it sometimes; Tommy’ll shake her awake, looking smug and asking why she was smiling in her sleep.
Carol swats him and says What, you think I’m over here dreaming about screwing?, leaving out the part where actually, she was dreaming about dyeing Ms. Hayes’ hair that burgundy color she always asks for once the leaves start to turn.

Summary
Steve made his choice, hiding behind his too-big Letterman jacket and later that overpriced Members Only while his friends went out of their way to make Jonathan’s life hell; or what he thought, in the ninth grade, was hell.
Hell actually came two years later, when they dragged Will’s body out of the quarry. When Lonnie came home. When his mother sat him down like he was three years old again and said, smiling tightly, I’m going to have a baby.
Benjamin, the magnificent life-fixing-grief-resolving-replacement-baby, was born nine months later.

Emilie's gaze slides to her. "Nathalie, darling, settle this. Is my husband a terrible host or just a terrible artist?"
Gabriel's jaw tightens. "Emilie."
"Both," Nathalie says at the same time.

Summary
“Seeing as though we both have something to gain from being off of the marriage market, why don't we make an agreement?” Mr. Bridgerton’s body had completely turned towards Cressida, knees slightly bumping against her own. “And before you say no, just hear me out–”
“What exactly do you have to gain from being wed?” Cressida asked before she could stop herself. She tensed when Mr. Bridgerton’s unbandaged hand gripped at her gloved wrist. She could feel her pulse quicken at the touch–
In which Elliot Bridgerton isn't actually Elliot Bridgerton and somehow that becomes Cressida Cowper's problem.
