Summary
“Three times in one morning!?” Caitlyn whined with a huff upon finding the object of her frustration dangling from the inner frame of the coat closet door.
In the span of a single hour, the damn thing had somehow journeyed from the shower curtain rod, to the inside of a kitchen cabinet, to here. And miraculously, all without her notice. How the culprit had gotten so good at this scheme of hers in only a matter of days, Caitlyn hadn’t a clue, and like each time before, Vi was ready to pounce.
OR: Vi has a little too much fun with the mistletoe and isn’t prepared for Caitlyn’s retaliation.

Summary
“What? Did I do something wrong?” Vi asked, her expression a caricature of innocence.
Oh, but she knew exactly what she’d done in Caitlyn’s absence, still brushing the icy moisture from her palms as she knelt beside her handiwork, rather blatantly admiring it no less.
And yet she dared play dumb with Caitlyn Kiramman.
OR: Caitlyn gives Vi a simple project and Vi takes artistic liberties.

Summary
Caitlyn was grasping at straws. She had to come up with a plan, and quickly. She filtered through all her limited options. One idea popped into her head. An extremely stupid one. One she knew she would regret but before she could stop herself it was already out of her mouth.
“I’m already engaged.”
“You’re engaged?”
“Yes.”
“To be married?”
“Yes.”
“To whom?”
Oh shit. Thoughts whirled through her brain. A flash of grey eyes clouded her vision.
“To Vi”

Summary
“Now, I have to tell you… she wore out one painter before you.”
Vi’s brow furrows. “How so?” She can’t keep the question at bay.
Cassandra looks down at her tea. “To put it simply, she refused to pose. He never saw her face.”
Vi sits up a little straighter, concern tightening her muscles.
“Why won’t she be painted, exactly?” The image of the smudged face barrages her, filling her vision with blue and gold.
“She refuses this marriage,” she replies sternly, lines etched along her brow. Cassandra glances up to her own wedding portrait before meeting Vi’s gaze again. “You must paint her without her knowing.”

Summary
Vi narrowed her eyes. “If I give you your junk back, you’ll leave us alone?”
Jayce hesitated, glancing at Caitlyn. “...Yes.”
Vi took a step back, arms crossing. “Sure thing, pretty boy. You’ll have it tomorrow.”
She turned to leave, but Jayce was quicker this time, stepping in her path. Powder immediately ducked behind Vi’s leg again, peeking out cautiously.
“No way,” Jayce said firmly. “You’re not walking out of here without me. If I let you go now, I’m definitely not seeing you or my stuff again.”
Vi groaned, tilting her head back like the universe was testing her patience. The sun outside was dipping lower, painting the city with hues of orange and pink.
“Fine,” Vi said begrudgingly. “We’ll take you. “
Jayce looked conflicted. “Yeah, I don’t think going to the Undercity at night is—”
“We can go tomorrow morning,” Caitlyn interrupted suddenly.

Summary
“Shit, listen, I’m sorry!” Vi half-yelled, trying to compete with the rain. “I know you don’t want to see me, but I need to talk to you!”
Caitlyn’s heart clenched.Anxiety flickered in her chest, mingling with the hurt she hadn’t quite shaken.
She leaned out the window, her hair dampening in the rain. “Vi, just come inside! You’ll get sick!” she shouted, her voice carrying a note of urgency.
Vi shook her head stubbornly, rain running in rivulets down her face. “No! I need to say what I have to say, and then I’ll leave. You won’t have to see me again. You can just forget all about me.”
Her tone was strong, but Caitlyn could hear the crack beneath it, the vulnerability that made her breath hitch.
“What are you talking about?” Caitlyn shouted back, bewildered. None of this made sense, and the storm wasn’t helping her focus.OR

Summary
“Have any of you seen combat?” she dares to ask. It was the first question she wanted to ask the moment she entered the room, the answer already clear in the nuisance of their house banners flooding the throne room, decorative feathers and jewels hanging from all of them. Peacocks among wolves.
They all stare at her with red stained cheeks. “Real combat,” Caitlyn clarifies when one of the knights begins to step forward, his stature of someone who’s barely seen the sun outside of a brothel. He steps back only for the nameless knight to take a step forward.
Caitlyn doesn’t recall closing the distance, something in the knight acting as a siren call to the princess. “You,” Caitlyn states simply. It isn’t a judgement or an accusation. But remembrance. The way her gloved fingers felt when taking the favor from Caitlyn’s hands, her helmet still hiding the whole of her face.
“The one and only, Princess” she quips quietly. She doesn’t bow her head as the others had when she met them at eye level. No. This knight raises her chin. Not in defiance but in something Caitlyn can only describe as a challenging reverence.
I dare you to choose me as I am.
