Summary
Doctor Patricia Hunt is a wildlife biologist for the National Parks Service. She likes her job, she's good at her job. She studies her cougars in peace, tagging and tracking the cats in Yellowstone. Until April 1968 rolls around and she's shipped off to Vietnam as part of a team of 'scientific consultants'.
She's stuck tailing along with Commander Wallace and his idiots, picking up the pieces of dead marines mauled in a suspiciously not-so-cat-like fashion. She's just waiting for the day she gets told she can go home. She's sick of the war, sick of the violence. Then Bishop comes along, investigating those mysterious shipments Jericho's been after.

Summary
It was the height of summer vacation. Myrtle Beach was packed full of families, children running around everywhere, kicking up sand and splashing in the water. Logan Stovall sat under a wide umbrella, pale skin slathered in a layer of greasy sunscreen that Gerald insisted he put on. Mrs. Keyes was reading not too far from him, big white sunglasses over her eyes and a sunhat on her head, sitting in a little blue folding chair. Gerald had taken his sisters up to the boardwalk for a snack, leaving him here in silence with Mrs. Keyes.
