Summary
There will come a time, Eiji knows, in which love, for Ash, doesn’t require abject, martyrish displays of self-destruction in a desperate attempt to prove a humanity others have stripped from him. A day in which Ash will finally be able to let go of the heavy-handed metaphors of separate spheres, of rabbits and lynxes he’s clung to for so long as proof of a guilt he’s been persuaded of his entire life, and allow himself to simply love Eiji. For now, they sit together as their tea slowly cools in the frigid air, and, despite it all, it’s enough.

And so maybe there aren’t any innocent places left in the world, maybe no person who can claim to have escaped the corruption that perhaps is innate to human existence. But Skipper laughs audibly from the next room over and Ash with him, and Eiji thinks that maybe, despite all they’ve collectively seen of the world, happiness can still be found within it.

The prospect of going camping is more than a little foreign to Reki. Up until a few weeks ago, he’d thought it was some sort of American fabrication that only existed in family sitcoms. So his surprise was palpable when Manager Oka had proposed an ‘Employee Retreat’ of the DopeSketch employees at some sort of wilderness park, claiming it would be a fun bonding opportunity. He had almost laughed when Oka had mentioned they’d spend the weekend camping, before he’d caught a glimpse of Langa’s face, which had brightened like the sun. After that, the only reaction he could’ve possibly had was to invest himself in the trip completely, because if camping made Langa light up like that, Reki loved it too by extension.

Eiji grasps at Ash’s wrist, and shakes his head plaintively, a kind of resigned outrage on his face.
“Food isn’t something you deserve,” he says simply. “And you’re not a bad person. You’re the best person I’ve ever met.”

Ash is inside a snowglobe. Thick, unbreakable glass separates him from the rest of the world, and his lungs are filled with glycerin. Everything moves in slow motion. His limbs hang limply by his sides; he can’t move them-- his body weighs a million tons. He’s staring blankly at the wall in front of him, but his eyes are completely clouded over-- he’s looking without seeing.
