After being fired from Seattle Grace and a concerning conversation with Janet, Meredith took Zola, leaving Derek, Cristina, Seattle Grace and everything behind. All Meredith wanted was to have more time with Zola before they took her away but instead, she found herself driving to the City of Angels, standing in front of the last person she’d ever expected to help her, her soon-to-be ex-husband’s ex-wife, Dr. Addison Montgomery.
After multiple failed pregnancies, failed adoption, and her break up with Sam, feeling tired and lost, Addison took a month-long leave from the practice, closing herself off from Sam, Jake, her friends, and Seaside Health and Wellness. All Addison wanted was to be alone for a while to give her time to just be and think of what she really wanted in her life, instead she found herself opening her front door, drunk in wine, and being greeted by the sight of the last person she’d ever expected to set foot in L.A., her ex-husband’s ex-dirty-mistress-turned-wife, Dr. Meredith Grey.

Meredith and Bailey were sent to a two-week Medical Conference in Boston — in behalf of Dr. Richard Webber. Bailey, unfortunately, had to leave on the 3rd day because of a personal emergency and went back to Seattle. Meredith bumps into Addison who is coincidentally invited to speak in the Medical Conference. They talked and went out for drinks. The next day, they wake up — naked and very much married.
