“then why does it feel like we are?” he fires back, stepping into her space again, backing her toward the wall of his cabin. her back hits wood.
his hands come up automatically—one bracing beside her head, the other firmly settling on her hip.
“you don’t get to be jealous,” she says, breath quickening.
“i am,” he says flatly. “deal with it.”
that does it. she grabs his shirt and yanks him down into her.
it’s violent. teeth clashing, breath sharp, hands fisting fabric like she’s trying to tear through him.
he responds instantly, one hand sliding from her waist to her lower back, gripping hard enough to pull her fully against him. the other stays braced by her head, boxing her in.
“you’re so fucking irritating,” she mutters against his mouth.
“yeah?” he fires back, kissing her harder. “you’re the one who started this.”

It's not. There's everything they haven't said. The prophecy hanging over their heads. The weeks of careful distance that have taken up more space than either of them knows what to do with.
A lego house — that's what they're building. Piece by piece. Snapped together and pulled apart and put back together again, because that's what you do when something matters. You don't leave it broken on the floor. You pick up the pieces. You start again.
It falls apart sometimes. That's the nature of it. That's the nature of them.
But Percy will always pick up the pieces. And Annabeth will always come back to build.
